Sunday morning, to remind myself that anything is possible, I tried to think of something unlikely. Something that, if I did see it, I would smile and remember.
The first thing that popped into my head was a blue arrow. “Strange”, I thought. Not sure why I would think of that, or where that might pop up.
It seemed too basic, so I tried to think of something else. I saw a broken tree… One that had been broken for a while, and sat there in the wild for months, or more. Now that was interesting… Being in Orange County where all trees were well-groomed and we don’t tolerate nature doing its own thing, it was not likely I would see that.
I asked my son”What can you think of that would be strange if we saw it today?” He thought, and answered “A bear”. He didn’t know what I had thought of.
When we got in the car to leave, my son decided to bring a book to read on our way. He chose a book he hadn’t read in a while – Avatar: The Last Airbender:
I smiled as I saw the blue arrow.
We went to a restaurant for lunch. The walls were covered with photos. I smiled again when I saw the photo directly in front of me:
Later, my wife and I decided to go to a movie – kind of a last-minute thing. The movie was set in LA, but they took a trip to the mountains, and walked right past…
…a broken tree.
Interesting story! What a great exercise. Makes me wonder what, if we’re willing to stop and expect, will surprise us each day.
But what does it all mean!?!?
The meaning is simple:
You get what you focus on.
